AmmoDyn 12 Gauge 9-Pellet 2.75" 00-Buckshot High-Brass

A: High brass refers to the extended height of the metal head at the shell base. While modern plastic hulls carry pressure independently, the taller head still provides tangible mechanical benefits: increased rim support, resistance to deformation under aggressive cycling, and more reliable extraction. For any duty or defensive application, high brass is the preferred construction.

A: Gualandi is an established Italian wad manufacturer. The Bior design incorporates a hinged section that partially collapses under ignition, cushioning the pellet column and reducing the deformation that opens patterns. Pellet deformation during acceleration is the primary cause of erratic buckshot patterns. This cushioning wad combined with hardened shot is the standard construction approach for producing consistent defensive patterns.

A: General guidance is approximately one inch of spread per yard from a cylinder bore, though your specific shotgun and choke will determine actual performance. Most 12 gauge shotguns retain all nine pellets on a torso-sized target between 15 and 25 yards. Pattern documentation at 7, 10, 15, and 25 yards is essential for any shotgun used defensively.

A: The 1,378 fps velocity sits well above the threshold where most gas and inertia systems experience short-stroking. Reduced-recoil loads are the common source of semi-auto cycling problems; full-power loads like this typically operate reliably. That said, semi-auto shotguns are ammunition-sensitive by design — always validate reliability with a minimum of 25 to 50 rounds through your specific shotgun before duty or defensive carry.

A: Ammunition selection for defensive use is generally regulated at the state level, and most jurisdictions permit standard commercial buckshot loads for lawful self-defense. Verify your local statutes, and understand that documentation of your ammunition selection may be relevant in any post-incident review. Ballistic gel testing, pattern documentation, and consistency with law enforcement selection are commonly cited factors.

A: Nine-pellet 00 buckshot is the historical professional standard and the load type against which alternatives are typically measured. Eight-pellet flight-control designs may produce tighter patterns at defensive distances. Reduced-recoil loads offer faster follow-up shots but may not cycle every semi-auto. The correct selection for your circumstances depends on your specific shotgun, your training, and your intended use — pattern each option before committing to it.
