When the specification behind a cartridge matters — for training, for stockpile, for a defensive rifle you actually rely on — this is genuine NATO M80 Ball. Manufactured by ZSR Patlayıcı Sanayi to STANAG 2310 / AEP-97 with published technical data across the board: 149-grain Tombac-jacketed projectile over a lead-antimony core, CuZn30 brass, non-corrosive Boxer primer, waterproofed at both primer and case mouth, and qualified across a 106-degree Celsius operating band. A published minimum port pressure of 550 bar means it will cycle a gas-operated 7.62 NATO rifle reliably — the difference between ammunition that meets a spec and ammunition that only meets a velocity number. Reloadable brass. Rifle-grade quality control.

Key Features:

The AmmoDyn 7.62x51mm NATO 149 Grain FMJ Brass Ammunition — here's a breakdown of its key features:

Reference Standard	NATO STANAG 2310 / AEP-97 Built and tested to the published NATO specification, not a commercial house load
Bullet Weight & Type	149 grain FMJ Tombac CuZn10 jacket over a lead-antimony core — no steel content anywhere in the projectile
Velocity	2,733 fps (833 ± 10 m/s at 16 m) A ±10 m/s tolerance is a tight window for ball ammunition and translates to predictable drop
Pressure Specification	3,800 bar chamber / 550 bar port minimum A published minimum port pressure is what tells you a gas gun will actually cycle it
Environmental Qualification	-54°C to +52°C, waterproofed Sealed against moisture and rated across a 106-degree Celsius operating band
Case & Primer	CuZn30 brass, Boxer-primed Non-corrosive and fully reloadable — keep your brass, run it again

Applications & Use Cases:

Defensive Rifle Practice: The most reliable way to train realistically is with ammunition that closely matches your carry or duty load. NATO ball fills that role for any 7.62 platform.
LE / Duty Rifle Training: Consistency of pressure and cycling that is documented rather than assumed.
Preparedness Stockpile: Sealed construction and full temperature qualification make this a genuinely storable cartridge, not merely a shootable one.
Battle-Rifle Support: The reference specification M14 / M1A / HK91 / FAL platforms were designed around.
Reloader Component Stream: Boxer-primed, non-corrosive CuZn30 brass — feeds a serious handloading operation at low cost.

Pros and Cons:

Pros

✔ Documented Specification: Every number that matters — pressure, velocity, tolerance, accuracy standard — is published by the manufacturer.
✔ Reloadable Brass: CuZn30 case, Boxer primer, non-corrosive. Cleanable, reusable, dependable.
✔ Non-Magnetic Projectile: No steel content in the M80 Ball bullet. Compatible with ranges that enforce magnet checks.
✔ Sealed & Temperature-Qualified: Waterproofed, -54°C to +52°C. Storage-appropriate.
✔ Cycling Guarantee: A 550 bar minimum port pressure specification means gas guns will actually run it.

Cons

✘ Service-Rifle Accuracy Standard: Designed for combat effectiveness at 550 meters, not benchrest groups.
✘ Not a Hunting Cartridge: FMJ construction is non-expanding. Not legal for big game in most states.
✘ Significant Recoil: Full-power .30 caliber cartridges require training and appropriate stock work.
✘ Import Availability: Overseas production is delivered in lots. Availability moves with shipment schedules.

About AmmoDyn & ZSR:

AmmoDyn, Corp. is a licensed federal firearms licensee and ammunition wholesaler headquartered in Signal Hill, California, specializing in NATO-standard munitions for military, law enforcement, and commercial markets. AmmoDyn product is manufactured by ZSR Patlayıcı Sanayi A.Ş. of Balıkesir, Turkey. ZSR's core business is defense-sector metallic ammunition — 9x19mm through 12.7x99mm, including M193, M855, M80 Ball, tracer, and armor-piercing loadings built to NATO reference documents — and that same manufacturing discipline carries over into their sporting shotshell lines, which have reached the U.S. market under several labels over the years. For a buyer, the appeal is straightforward: a defense contractor's quality control at import pricing rather than domestic premium pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Is this cartridge safe to fire in a .308 Winchester chamber?

A: Yes, in essentially every modern rifle. The two cartridges share external dimensions, and this load's maximum chamber pressure of 3,800 bar converts to approximately 55,100 psi — meaningfully below the 62,000 psi SAAMI ceiling for commercial .308 Winchester. Where problems arise is the reverse direction: some military 7.62 NATO chambers are cut with slightly more generous headspace, and hot commercial .308 loads fired through them can produce elevated case stress. For any older or surplus rifle, verify headspace before firing.

Q: What is port pressure, and why does the spec matter for a defensive rifle?

A: Port pressure is the gas pressure remaining in the barrel when the bullet passes the gas port on a semi-automatic rifle. This is the pressure that actually operates the action. A cartridge can meet its velocity number and still fail to cycle a gas gun if the pressure curve falls off too quickly. NATO ball ammunition specifies a minimum of 550 bar at the port, which is a functional guarantee — one that most commercial ammunition does not publish at all.

Q: Is this Berdan-primed surplus?

A: No. Boxer-primed brass cases, standard flash hole, non-corrosive priming. Fully compatible with conventional reloading equipment and cleanable with normal maintenance procedures.

Q: Will it pass an indoor range magnet screening?

A: Yes. The M80 Ball projectile is Tombac CuZn10 jacket over a lead-antimony core, with no steel content, and the case is brass. It will not attract a magnet. Note this applies specifically to M80 Ball — ZSR's M62 tracer and M61 armor-piercing loadings in the same caliber use steel-based construction.

Q: Realistic accuracy from this cartridge?

A: The manufacturer specification is a maximum 200 mm dispersion standard deviation at 550 meters — approximately 8 inches at 600 yards. That is a service-rifle standard designed around defeating man-sized targets at battlefield distance. For match-grade precision, choose a purpose-built match load.

Q: Appropriate for hunting?

A: Not recommended, and illegal for big game in many states. Full metal jacket construction is engineered specifically not to expand, which results in inadequate energy transfer. Select a controlled-expansion soft point or bonded load for hunting applications.
